“Chiefs Bring Back Undrafted Rookie Baylor Cupp in Surprise Move”

On Tuesday, the Kansas City Chiefs shuffled their roster, focusing primarily on the practice squad.

As reported by Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com, the team signed kicker Matt Wright and reinstated tight end Baylor Cupp from the practice squad’s injured reserve.
The Chiefs also placed tight end Peyton Hendershot on injured reserve, while parting ways with defensive end Cameron Thomas. Additionally, offensive tackle Lucas Niang and defensive end Truman Jones were released from the practice squad.

Aside from Hendershot, tight end Baylor Cupp is another name Chiefs fans might recognize. Signed as an undrafted free agent this offseason, Cupp impressed during training camp and preseason, securing a spot on the practice squad. In preseason action, he logged three receptions on three targets for 25 yards and a touchdown.
Unfortunately, Cupp was placed on the Chiefs’ practice squad injured reserve before their Week 5 game against the Los Angeles Chargers. While his injury made it unlikely for him to see the field, the time off still hindered his development.

During his three years at Texas Tech, Cupp recorded just 23 receptions for 246 yards and four touchdowns—a relatively modest track record for a tight end, especially in a system where the position plays a crucial role.

Now back from injury, Cupp has the chance to continue his growth. The Chiefs have shown they can successfully develop tight ends, as seen with Noah Gray. If they can replicate that success with Cupp, the team could be well-positioned at tight end once Travis Kelce eventually retires.
