Adrian Ilie has encouraged Ianis Hagi to leave Rangers and revive his career with Borussia Monchengladbach. The 26-year-old made his Ibrox debut in the 1-1 draw against Dundee United on Saturday [23 November], only his third appearance for the Gers this year after his contract was sorted [Daily Record].

However, Ilie, a close family friend of the Hagi’s, was described by the Daily Record [26 November, pg48] as saying that a move to the Bundesliga could be in the works for the Romanian to resolve his troubles at Ibrox.

He stated, “I am aware that some German teams are interested in Ianis. Borussia Monchengladbach is the primary club. “It would be better for him to join with a team in the middle of the Bundesliga; such a move would benefit him.

“Maybe we’ll talk to his agent about it. I also talked about the matter with Gheorghe. Ianis needs to play a few more games, but there are Bundesliga teams willing to pay for his transfer.

“I believe his club are asking for two million Euros. I believe it is around that number. He would benefit from the transfer. Give him a year to adjust to football in Germany and watch him go.”

Rangers should sell Ianis Hagi

Gheorge recently expressed his desire to see his son leave Ibrox this season, and with serious interest in his signing, it appears Hagi is on his way out the door.

Philippe Clement has shown his hand by bringing Hagi off the bench; even without Tom Lawrence, it is evident that the Belgian has no place for Hagi in his plans at Ibrox. However, a move to the Bundesliga for a reported £1.6 million would be fantastic business for all sides.

The Gers could urgently use the finances to tackle the January transfer window, while Hagi would, admittedly, move up to a more prestigious league.

His performances with the national team in the UEFA Nations League demonstrate his evident quality, and while his options remain limited in Glasgow, his entourage is working hard to make a trade happen. Hagi is too talented to waste away in the dugout at Ibrox.

Clement could be making another in a long string of rash decisions that have him hanging by a thread at Rangers, but all roads point to an unavoidable departure. In other Rangers news, Tam McManus makes a ‘clear’ Derek McInnes decision in a’massive’ Gers claim.
