The 10-goal former Pyramid FC youngster has signed a lucrative four-year contract with Aston Villa
As they lie in the relegation zone, Espanyol is going through a difficult time and there are concerns regarding their financial status.
However, right-back Omar El Hilali’s adjustment to first division football has been one of the causes for hope.
After graduating from Cornella‘s academy, the 21-year-old took over the right-back position last season, helping Espanyol be promoted.
He hasn’t faltered this season, and according to MD, Premier League powerhouses Manchester City, Aston Villa, and Brighton are showing interest in him. The Morocco international’s contract expires in 2027, but if any of those teams want to risk him,
they have a reasonably priced €15 million release clause.
Given that they waited for Joan Garcia’s €30 million release clause from Arsenal last summer, it doesn’t seem likely that they would be open to negotiating that price.
However, Los Pericos will put staying up this season first,
even though they might have to sell in January or next summer to improve their accounts.
This season, El Hilali has made 13 appearances for Espanyol, starting all of the Liga games and making his Copa del Rey debut.
