Former Serie A star found dead in his swimming pool.
Capone would later graduate from the club’s academy in the city and establish himself as a mainstay in the midfield of the Serie A team in the 2000s.
Because of Capone’s commitment, the team gave him the No. 10 shirt that had been retired following Chelsea great Gianfranco Zola’s retirement from the Sardinian team the season before.
The Serie A team honored their former player in a statement.
“All of Cagliari Calcio learns with dismay and deep sadness the news of Andrea Capone’s passing, who passed away at just 43 years of age,” it said.
‘The bond with his land will remain impossible to undermine, for a boy who has always been known for his professionalism, dedication and passion.
“Characteristics that will live in the hearts of those fortunate enough to meet him both on and off the field.” Cagliari Calcio joins the family during this most painful time.
After attending a friend’s party, Capone reportedly stayed the night before in the hotel, according to reports from local publication L’Unione Sarda.
He was discovered dead in his room on Sunday morning, and according to reports from emergency services, he had a head wound that might have played a role in his demise.
Before joining Serie B team Vincenza, the Italian youth international played two preseason friendlies for the Scottish Premiership team and went on trial with Celtic after leaving his boyhood club.
After that, he briefly worked at Grosseto and Salertiana before retiring in 2010.
