Chelsea ‘identify’ £33m signing in Arsenal boost after ‘giving up’ on Arteta’s ‘dream’ transfer target
According to rumors, Chelsea has ‘identified’ Ipswich Town star Liam Delap as a possible signing ahead of the winter transfer season. Chelsea was Europe’s largest spender this summer, but they still missed out on top striker target Victor Osimhen.
The Premier League heavyweights lacked a world-class striker last season and chose Osimhen as their preferred target. Unlike past windows, this trade appeared possible in the summer when Serie A giants Napoli dropped their expectations and bought Romelu Lukaku to replace the Nigeria international.
Despite this, Chelsea was unable to strike an agreement with Napoli and did not sign an alternative. Osimhen eventually won an uninspiring alternative transfer, joining Turkish giants Galatasaray on loan.
There is believed to be a ‘break clause’ in Osimhen’s loan agreement, which might pave the way for a Premier League move in the winter.

According to the I, the thought of’reviving a deal for Osimhen at some time in the next 12 months hasn’t been thrown off totally’, but ‘they are willing to look at younger alternatives that fit more easily into their salary structure, and Delap is one of those’.
The 22-year-old rose through the ranks at Derby County before joining Manchester City in 2019. He only made six senior appearances for the Premier League champions before being traded in the summer
The England U21 international impressed during his loan spell at Championship club Hull City last season, and he decided to leave in the summer to play more regularly away from the Etihad.
In the summer, newly promoted Ipswich Town beat off competition to recruit Delap from Manchester City for about £20 million, and he’s had an incredible start to the season. He has six goals from 12 appearances in all competitions.
