Rangers January transfer window hopes given grim outlook by former Man Utd man.
Rangers are back in action following the international break this weekend
Rangers are in line for a ‘difficult’ January transfer window due to financial issues behind the scenes,
according to former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown.
The Gers may have to clever with their business this winter if they are
to bring in some reinforcements ahead of the second-half of the season.
Philippe Clement’s side are currently sat in 3rd place in the Scottish Premiership
table and won 1-0 at home to Hearts in their last outing before the
international break after striker Cyriel Dessers’ early goal.
They are back in action this weekend with a home clash against Dundee United
as they look to build some momentum over the coming weeks and months.
In this latest transfer update regarding Rangers, ex-recruitment chief Brown has said,
as per a report by Football Insider: “They’re in a difficult position with their finances.
From what I hear, there isn’t a lot of room for manoeuvre in the transfer window,
so that could limit them. They could have a look in the loan market,
and sign a few on loan, but I’d expect any real quality player that becomes available will have plenty of interest, so it could be tough for them.
“And it won’t do the manager any favours either, because he’s under pressure to get results.
It’s not as if he will be able to see it out until January and then add
some real quality and kick on in the second half of the season.
I’d expect he’ll have to work largely with what he’s already got at his disposal.”
He added: “The problem is, they haven’t been particularly good and there isn’t much
strength in depth there. I don’t doubt they’ll be looking already to see who
might be available and where they could improve, but it’ll be difficult for them.”
Rangers delved into the market over the summer to bring in the likes of Conor Barron, Vaclav Cerny and Jefte, among others, to boost their squad. They also waved goodbye to players such as Sam Lammers, Scott Wright and John Lundstram to free up space and funds in their ranks and pave the way for their new faces.
