Lennon Miller urged to snub Celtic for Rangers as Nacho Novo lays out Ibrox trump card
The Motherwell midfielder, 18, has caught the attention of Britain’s biggest clubs
Nacho Novo admits he’d love Lennon Miller to follow in his footsteps by snubbing Celtic for Rangers. The Motherwell sensation looks set to spark a bidding war in January as Britain’s biggest clubs battle it out for his signature.
English Premier League giants Liverpool, Man City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Aston Villa all joined the Old Firm in a scouting mission this week as Miller captained Scotland’s Under-19s during a 0-0 draw against France. Fir Park academy graduate Miller, 18, looks set to shatter the club’s transfer record with Well chiefs demanding a fee upwards of £4million for the midfielder, who is under contract until 2026. While
that figure is small change to Celtic and their English counterparts, it remains to be seen if Gers could afford to meet the asking price as they attempt to balance the books.
Philippe Clement is a big admirer and if a deal can be funded, ex-striker Novo believes Miller would walk straight into the Ibrox team. “It’s a difficult one”, the Spaniard told Gambling.com. “He’s a very talented player, but I don’t know if he [Lennon Miller] will decide to go to Rangers or Celtic. It depends on how much he’s going to play at Celtic, and how much he’s going to play at Rangers.
“Maybe he will play more games for Rangers because they need quality and fresh legs. I played with his dad at Carlisle United, and he was a good striker. I would love it if they [Rangers] signed him, because he’s very good and very mature for his age. He’s only 18 but he looks as if he’s an experienced player.
He can only get better and better.” Novo famously rejected a move to Celtic Park in favour of Ibrox in 2004 and became an idol in the eyes of Rangers fans. He said: “That’s a question that people always ask me, but it was always
Rangers for me. The club [Dundee] pushed me to go to Celtic and listen to what they had to say, but I had already made my mind up.
“I thought Rangers were the better team, with all the players they had and all the leagues they won. I made the right choice [joining Rangers].”
