Celtic interested in signing “talented” £20m player who’ll be granted exit
Celtic are apparently interested in recruiting a Premier League winner who will be allowed to leave his current club when the opportunity arises.
Celtic transfer news
The Bhoys have enjoyed quite the start to the campaign, sitting top of the Scottish Premiership once again, but will be well aware of just how important it is to continue that run after the international break. Squaring off against Hearts in the league before then playing host to Club Brugge in Europe, it could be quite the week for Brendan Rodgers’ side if they manage to pick up where they left off.
Away from the action, though, transfer rumors have been swirling around. The Scottish champions may be concerned about the Premier League’s interest in the in-form Nicolas Kuhn, but they are also keeping an eye on some new players, including the gifted twins Cole and Dylan Williams.
The young pair are future options and might eventually join another target at Rodgers’ side. Caught Offside claims that James McAtee, who will be free to leave Manchester City when the opportunity arises, is a target for Celtic.
However, the deal will not be cheap or simple. In fact, Celtic will need to pay a club record of over £20 million to sign McAtee, surpassing their current high of £14 million set in 2022 when they signed Jota. (Transfermarkt)
It’s safe to say that Celtic will have fierce competition to sign the Manchester City midfielder, as West Ham United, Southampton, Nottingham Forest, and Leicester City are apparently among the other teams interested in doing so.
“Talented” McAtee can become next Cole Palmer
Of course, the last big academy graduate to leave Manchester City was none other than Cole Palmer, who has gone on to become one of the best players in the Premier League at Chelsea. He remains City’s biggest regrets but they may not have learned from their mistake, given their willingness to let McAtee depart. Amid a transitional period, the attacking midfielder may well follow in Palmer’s footsteps in what could even benefit Celtic.
It would be revolutionary on the European scene and further solidify the Bhoys‘ supremacy in the Scottish Premiership if they were to acquire a player who was destined for a similar ascent to Palmer’s. The 22-year-old is definitely someone to watch if Football Talent Scout’s Jacek Kulig’s admiration is any indication.
Although the projected £20 million+ transfer fee might be Celtic’s biggest obstacle, they might still be able to get a player of McAtee’s caliber if players like Kuhn leave in the summer.
