Aston Villa is getting ready for the round of 32 as the date of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy draw is set.
After qualifying from their northern section group, Aston Villa’s under-21 team
will find out this week who they will play in the following round of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy.
The youthful players from Villa traveled north to play Fleetwood, Bolton, and Barrow.
They came back with five points, which was good for second place behind leaders Bolton.
In the round of 32, Villa’s under-21 team will face the team that won their northern group;
that team will continue to be seeded and regionalized. Surprisingly,
they are the only team from a Premier League academy to advance to the competition’s next round.
The week starting December 9th is when the round of 32, the following round, will take place.
The draw is scheduled for this Friday, November 22.
In the group stages, Villa earned £10,000 for their victory at Fleetwood and a further
£5,000 for their draw against Bolton. In addition to the £20,000 each team receives for entering the competition,
they also receive £10,000 for each win and £5,000 for each draw throughout the group round.
Sides who reach the final 32 and proceed earn £20,000 more and then £40,000 if they win their last 16 encounter.
The winner of the quarterfinals will receive up to £50,000, and if you win the Wembley final, you will receive £100,000;
the competition runner-up will receive an additional £50,000. They would have earned up to
£245,000 in prize money if Villa had won the thing from here.
If both Birmingham City and Villa under 21s advanced, the quarterfinals would be the earliest
point at which we might witness a Second City derby.
