The Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers makes a strong statement to Thomas Tuchel, the incoming England manager.
Morgan Rogers, a forward for Aston Villa, came on as a substitute for England during
Sunday’s 5-0 thumping of the Republic of Ireland.
Rogers received his first England call-up before the November international break because
of his exceptional play under Unai Emery this season.
Rogers, who made his Three Lions debut against Greece last week, was brought on as a late
substitution against Ireland. According to FotMob, he made an impression in his brief appearance, completing all of his passes.
After entering the game in the 75th minute, the Villa star created one chance that had an xA
(expected assists) of 0.28 and completed 100% of the seven passes he attempted.
His 100% dribble success record is hardly surprising, since his skill with the ball is
demonstrated for Aston Villa every week.
Rogers is able to create opportunities for himself or a teammate and lead his team forward
from a wide position. Two of his 11 touches in the game ended up in the opposing area,
despite the fact that he ultimately had nothing to show for it. This only shows how keen he is to
contribute to whatever threat his team poses and to give numbers in the box.
Rogers played a defensive role as well, winning both of his defensive duels while playing against a
team that didn’t appear to be very dangerous.
Future England manager Thomas Tuchel will have taken note of Rogers’ brief appearance and
may decide to put him in his team for the upcoming round of international matches in March.
In other Aston Villa news, with this most recent injury announcement, Ross Barkley will now
need to step up for the Villans.
