The 2026 Winter Olympics, officially called the XXV Olympic Winter Games and also known as Milano-Cortina 2026,
The future international multi-sport event will take place in three zones from February 6-22, 2026.
The main hosts are Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, both in Italy.
Italy will host its fourth Olympic Games, having previously held the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina d’Ampezzo.
The 1960 Summer Olympics took place in Rome, followed by the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin.
It will be the first Olympic Games to officially feature multiple host cities.
This is the first Winter Olympics since Sarajevo 1984 that the opening and closing ceremonies will take place at different venues.
Host city selection
Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo were chosen as host cities on June 24, 2019 at the 134th IOC Session in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The three Italian IOC members, Franco Carraro, Ivo Ferriani, and Giovanni Malagò
Gunilla Lindberg and Stefan Holm, two Swedish IOC members, were deemed unqualified to vote under the Olympic Charter.
