Celtic receive £8.5m January transfer boost amidst Nicolas Kuhn uncertainty

Celtic have received a boost in their pursuit of long-term target Mathias Kvistgaarden as Nicolas Kuhn’s future remains uncertain.
One of the Hoops’ top players this season has been German winger Kuhn, who has 10 goals and 11 assists in 17 games for Brendan Rodgers’ side across all competitions.

Kuhn scored twice in Celtic’s remarkable 3-1 Champions League comeback triumph against RB Leipzig, and then scored and assisted in the Hoops’ 2-0 Scottish Premiership win over Kilmarnock last weekend.

The 24-year-old’s impressive start to the season has piqued the interest of numerous European teams, according to Sky Deutschland reporter Florian Plettenberg, who claims that Premier League duo Fulham and Brentford have made enquiries about the winger and will continue to follow his position.

Kuhn only joined Celtic from Rapid Vienna for £3 million in January, and the Hoops are unlikely to let him leave on the cheap, given his importance under Rodgers and the fact that his contract has more than four years remaining.

However, if Celtic receives an acceptable offer for Kuhn in the near future, the Glasgow club may look to step up their chase of in-demand forward Kvistgaarden – not a direct replacement for Kuhn, but someone who has been on the club’s radar for some time.

According to the Scottish Sun, Celtic have revived their interest in Kvistgaarden, who was prominently associated with the Brondby frontman in the previous two transfer windows.

According to Tipsbladet, ‘major’ European clubs like as Celtic, Brighton & Hove Albion, Fenerbahce, Feyenoord, Bologna, and Hellas Verona all sent scouts to watch Kvistgaarden play in Brondby’s 1-1 draw with Nordsjaelland last weekend.

The 22-year-old, who is thought to be valued at roughly £8.5 million, scored 10 goals in 28 appearances for Brondby last season, but he has subsequently improved that this year, striking 13 times in 20 games across all competitions, including a strike in the aforementioned draw with Nordsjaelland.

Celtic-linked Kvistgaarden addresses transfer rumours

Kvistgaarden, a centre-forward who can also play on either flank, is under contract with Brondby until June 2027, but he has refused to rule out leaving the club in the near future.

Speaking to Danish news source Bold regarding a potential January move to a larger European club, Kvistgaarden said: “It would be fantastic if a lot of things came from outside. You have a dream of leaving at some point.

“There are still games remaining, and if it happens, you know you’re standing and suddenly you’re wearing the Brondby shirt for the last few games this season.

“So right now I’m just looking towards the next game and enjoying every single second I wear this shirt.”

While Brondby is presently sixth in the Danish SuperLiga, just four points behind the leaders, Celtic is joint-top of the Scottish Premiership with Aberdeen, having won ten and drawn one of their first eleven games.
