Narcis Pelach spoke with the Stoke City squad at the outset of the third three-game week in a row to reinforce his goal-scoring confidence.

Pelach’s post-match press conference after a 2-0 win at Blackburn highlighted the need for a killer instinct in both boxes in the Championship. He sees growth in Viktor Johansson’s form and forwards such as Million Manhoef and Tom Cannon, who both scored last night.

Goals have been a major problem for Stoke in recent years but Pelach is confident that is changing as he looks around the changing room.

He said: “Before the start of the week we had a meeting talking about our potential going towards goal.

I said I didn’t know exactly what they thought as a team but I would tell them what we thought as a staff. We have goals. There are many players who can score a goal. We have to be organised but we will find a way to score one, two or even three goals in a game.

“We have players who can do it and we need to believe it. We need to make sure that every time we have a chance it is [Pelach bangs twice on the desk] it is a problem for the opponent. I’m pleased because we scored two, could have maybe scored another one but of course we are making steps.”

The Blackburn win was his first away win as head coach and Stoke’s first back-to-back league wins of the season.

Pelach said: “It’s good to get back-to-back wins, it’s good to build confidence – but it’s just a win. We now have an important game to play on Saturday and we have to make sure we are on the top of our game.”
