Reasons why Micah Richards choose to coach Wolves over PL relegation rivals – Report
Wanderers have had an extremely challenging start to the 2024/25 season, and have managed to capture only three points from their first ten games.
Gary O’Neil is under mounting pressure at Molineux after being backed following the awful 5-3 defeat to Brentford.
Fosun desperately want O’Neil to turn things around at Wolves, but they could soon be put in a position where they have no choice but to make a change.
While many fans have now turned on O’Neil, several people in the media are not as concerned.
Gary Lineker thinks Wolves will stay up, given the calibre of players at Molineux. Darren Bent also feels Wolves have played some ‘lovely football’ at times, suggesting the club is in a bit of a false position.
Micah Richards has now had his say on Wolves after their winless start in the Premier League.
Micah Richards explains why he’d choose to coach Wolves, makes survival suggestion
Wolves were dealt a very tough fixture list this season, and it was always likely the club would be nearer to the bottom of the table than the top or middle.
But some fans did expect a better haul than three points from 10 games. And few really thought Wolves would still be winless up to now.
Wolves came up as a topic of conversation on the latest Rest Is Football podcast, and one person asked Gary Lineker, Micah Richards and Alan Shearer which of the current teams in the relegation zone they would most like to coach.
Richards said: “I’d go Wolves. I think they’ve got the better players. They’re just struggling for confidence at this moment in time. Although they had a late equaliser in the game before last.
“I think with Strand Larsen up front, and Cunha and Gomes and Ait-Nouri…”
Shearer asked if Richards felt Wolves had the best chance of the current three teams of staying up, to which he replied: “I just think they’ve got the best players.
“I don’t know if they’ve got the best chance. Just because you’ve got the best players, once the confidence drops it can be very difficult can’t it?
“But I just think they’ve been in the Premier League a while, they’ve got a manager who’s looked like he’s really good tactically, although it’s not gone the way he would have liked over the past couple of weeks.
“If I was backing players, I would go with Wolves.”
Good players need a good manager
The Wolves squad is littered with talented players and yet, the club is currently bottom of the Premier League table and four points from safety.
Obviously, Wolves had a very tough start in terms of the fixtures. But perhaps Wolves would have more points on the board had these talented players been taking instructions from someone else.
