Cinco razões pelas quais Viktor Gyokeres é o principal jogador do Sporting CP
Five Reasons why Viktor Gyokeres is the main man in Sporting CP
Amorim has been quizzed about United’s interest this week and will take charge of the club after the November international break.
The Portuguese manager will take on Ipswich Town at Portman Road who are of course managed by Kieran McKenna. It appears another Sporting Lisbon star has been quizzed about potentially moving to Old Trafford.
Whilst all of the focus this week has been about Amorim, who is set to start his role as United manager on November 11th, talk about transfer interest will soon follow.
Amorim is set to be the head coach so how much say he has on transfers will certainly be an interesting topic of conversation. It seems unlikely that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos would allow another manager as much transfer power as Erik ten Hag was allowed.
A new striker seems unlikely to be high on the list at Old Trafford with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee occupying those roles in the squad but that has not stopped speculation over Gyokeres intensifying.
“I don’t know,” Gyokeres said about a possible move to Old Trafford as per 90min. “I’m here, and I really like being here. It’s not something I think about. I’m enjoying it here.
“Of course, it’s not a normal situation. But we won 5-1, and the team reacted very well. We are professionals, and we have to continue like this.
“We are sad to see [Amorim] leave; he is a great professional; he was fantastic for us, but we have to adapt. It’s difficult to talk about the future, but we will definitely do the same job and continue to give our best. We wish him the best. It’s very good for him.”
United have to take the lead on transfers under Ruben Amorim
What is clear is that unlike Ten Hag, Amorim has been instilled as a head coach so the scope for his role at the club will be smaller.
Amorim looks set to just be in charge of the tactical side and managing games but the transfer business will be down to the board and the directors.
Jason Wilcox, Dan Ashworth and Christopher Vivelli will be in charge of transfers and unless the current striking crop fail to live up to expectations, it seems unlikely a move for Gyokeres will be forthcoming.
