The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner will be announced tonight, Monday, October 28, 2024, at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris. The ceremony starts at 7.45 pm GMT.

The prize has a new era since Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are no longer on the shortlist.Lionel Messi was crowned for the eighth time last year, but he and Cristiano Ronaldo were left off the shortlist this time, along with Luka Modric and Karim Benzema.

Vinicius Junior, who helped Real Madrid win the Champions League, LaLiga, and Spanish Super Cup, is the favourite to become the first Brazilian to win the honour since Kaka in 2007. Teammate Jude Bellingham has also reached the shortlist.

Manchester City’s Rodri was integral in his club winning the Premier League yet again and Spain then going all the way at Euro 2024, and is the most likely winner should Vinicius miss out. Some have even tipped him to make a late run for the prize.

Rodri is one of ten Premier League players on the 30-man shortlist, along with the likes of Cole Palmer, Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Phil Foden.

The winner will be crowned tonight, Monday, October 28, 2024, at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, with the ceremony beginning at 7.45pm GMT.

    What other awards will be given?

    The Feminin Ballon d’Or winner will also be announced, with Lucy Bronze, Lauren James, and Lauren Hemp as the three English players on the shortlist.

    Spanish nominees include former winners Aitana Bonmati and Alexia Putellas, while Americans include Sophia Smith, Trinity Rodman, and Lindsey Horan, following Emma Hayes’ Olympic gold.

    Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho are on the ten-man shortlist for the Kopa Trophy, awarded to the finest men’s under-21 player. However, Lamine Yamal is expected to win.

    Emiliano Martinez is the only Premier League custodian nominated for the Yashin Trophy, while Pep Guardiola, Carlo Ancelotti, and Xabi Alonso are all in the running for men’s coach of the year.

    Jonatan Giraldez, Sarina Wiegman, Hayes, and Sonia Bompastor are part of a competitive shortlist for the women’s coach award.

    There will also be prizes for the best men’s and women’s clubs of the year.The men’s shortlist includes Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, Manchester City, Girona, and Borussia Dortmund, while the women’s game features Barcelona, Chelsea, NJ/NY Gotham, PSG, and Lyon.
