English and Saudi clubs enter hunt for £7m winger Rangers manager admits trying to sign
Rangers are already working on transfer deals ahead of the January market opening.
Both interim chairman John Gilligan and director of recruitment Nils Koppen have stated that Rangers’ winter transfer period will begin almost immediately.
With anticipation building, there is already a lot of transfer talk, although Rangers may face some unexpected competition for a former free-agent Ibrox star if they show interest.
Ryan Kent wanted in England & Saudi Arabia
Former Rangers winger Ryan Kent is looking for a new club after being released by Turkish giants Fenerbahce earlier this month.
The 27-year-old forward has had a miserable 18 months in Istanbul and is now free to negotiate terms with a new club ahead of a possible January transfer.
Following news that Ryan Kent turned down a potential return to Scotland this summer, there is a lot of speculation about where the ex-Liverpool winger may end up come January.
Rangers, of course, have been discussed, but the Scottish Sun has thrown a surprise name into the mix regarding a transfer for Kent.
Leyton Orient of English League One are thought to be seriously interested in signing Kent, while long-term suitors Leeds United have been mentioned again.
Saudi Arabia is also allegedly interested, as Ryan Kent considers his options after his four-year contract in Turkey was terminated.
Rangers manager tried to sign Ryan Kent
The announcement comes after Rangers manager Philippe Clement was queried about Ryan Kent’s availability following his release from Fenerbahce.
The former Club Brugge manager attempted to get Kent to Belgium before Rangers paid £7 million to bring the winger to Glasgow from Liverpool following an initially successful loan spell.
Refusing to be dragged into the speculation, Clement is clear that Kent is a player he knows, however he would not clarify whether or not the club plans to add him to their roster in January.
Rangers have been linked with a variety of left-wing attackers, with the club lacking in the last third and said to be looking for a new alternative in the position.
“I’ve already said in the past year that I don’t get into rumors because it never stops,” Clement told reporters a few weeks ago. “So I am not going to get into rumors.
“But, of course, I know the guy and have known him for a long time, at the minute he signed with Rangers, I was in talks with him about bringing him to (Club) Brugge.
“But there was a bigger contract, I believe, in Rangers, so he selected that. So, I’ve known him for a long time, but I’m not going to get into rumors about bringing guys on.”
