How Celtic’s Remaining Champions League Opponents Performed on Matchday Three

As Celtic secured a vital point away to Atalanta on matchday three of the initial phase of the Champions League, their remaining opponents were also in action.

The Hoops still have five games against five different teams left in the league phase of European football’s elite club competition.

Contrasting Fortunes

Next up in Europe for Brendan Rodgers’ men is a home tie against familiar foes RB Leipzig.

Marco Rose’s side currently sit second in the Bundesliga, level on points with league leaders Bayern Munich seven games in.

Although their league season has started well, the Germans lost their third game in a row in the Champions League last night, as Liverpool beat them 1-0 in Leipzig. They will now come to Parkhead in a few weeks without a European point on the board.

Elsewhere yesterday evening, Dinamo Zagreb secured an eye-catching 2-0 victory away to a ten-man Salzburg. Similarly to the Bhoys, the Croatians have four points from their opening three games.

Young Boys were also in action on Wednesday, hosting Inter. Under the stewardship of interim boss Joel Magnin, the Swiss outfit succumbed to a 1-0 loss, courtesy of a 93rd-minute Marcus Thuram strike.

On Tuesday, another few of Celtic’s upcoming European opponents played. Aston Villa kept up their perfect start to the league phase with a routine 2-0 win over Bologna. The Birmingham side sits pretty at the top of the table.

Finally, Club Brugge, who are due to visit Glasgow on matchday five, lost 3-1 to AC Milan at the San Siro. They went down to 10 men five minutes from half-time.

Celtic Shouldn’t Get Ahead of Themselves

Although they deserve utmost praise for last night’s result and performance, Celtic shouldn’t get too ahead of themselves just yet.

Some arduous ties lie in store, but at home, the Hoops will back themselves to find the required points to see them through to the last-16 play-offs.
