SUNDERLAND BOSS Makes a change on his first 11 in fear of losing to Luton Town…

Playing Sunday-Wednesday-Saturday–Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday means there’s a pretty heavy workload for the squad to manage over the next couple of weeks, and while some players will be fine to play in all six games, I do think we’ll see a couple of changes over the course of this week.

I’d be surprised to see Mundle, Rigg, Isidor and Roberts start all six games, and with the likes of Connolly, Watson and Browne waiting in the wings, we’ve got some decent options to come in who won’t weaken the team.

For tonight’s game, I think we could see one change as Regis starts rotating a bit.

Defence: Trai Hume, Chris Mepham, Luke O’Nien, Dennis Cirkin

Same again at the back, too, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this quartet keep as fit and as suspension-free as possible for as long as possible, as we’ve not got much underneath them. Cirkin’s been my player of the season so far, he’s been superb, but having said that Mepham and O’Nien have been in outstanding form, too. Hume’s probably the one who you want a bit more from, but that’s probably being a bit greedy at this point.

Midfield: Dan Neil, Jobe, Alan Browne

Chris Rigg’s going to have to be managed well this season, and give we’ve got Alan Browne waiting in the wings I do think we’ll see a change here tonight. Browne’s know how could be invaluable in a game that, despite Luton’s early season indifferent form, will be a big test, so for those reasons I think we’ll see the former Preston skipper in the team tonight. I thought Dan Neil had probably his best game of the season on Sunday, while Jobe’s looking better and better all the time.

Attack: Patrick Roberts, Wilson Isidor, Romaine Mundle

Same again upfront today, although I thought the point raised by Regis Le Bris about swapping Mundle and Roberts around during games was interesting, and I think we’ll see that at some point soon. Tommy Watson will come into the thinking today – he was absent from the under 21s earlier in the week – so I wouldn’t be surprised if he starts on Saturday after a 20 minute run out tonight. Romaine Mundle looked a bit off the boil on Sunday too, and he’s another who I think we’ll see rested in the coming games.
