Celtic fans are under no illusion that tonight’s Champions League tie at Atalanta is going to be a tough test for Brendan Rodgers’ Bhoys.

However, what the fans won’t do is completely write off Celtic’s chances of pulling off a result in Europe no matter who they play.

Celtic have beaten Serie A teams at home and away in Europe before and despite the negativity towards Celtic in the Champions League from the media, the Hoops boss will have belief that this current team can do the same.

And so does self-confessed Celtic fan and media pundit, Gabby Agbonlahor.

Gabby Agbonlahor wants a ‘different approach’ from Celtic vs Atalanta

Agbonlahor told talkSPORT, “I want to see Celtic maybe have a different approach to what they did against Dortmund.

“If they go toe to toe against Atalanta it’s going to be another disappointing night. If they try and hold back and play a bit more defensively, maybe they’ve got a chance. But I can’t see anything more than a home win.”

Ally McCoist’s predictable Celtic take

Ally McCoist reacted to his co-host’s comments and said that despite Celtic’s ‘amazing’ performance against Slovan Bratislava, the former Rangers man predicts a ‘very tough’ night for Brendan Rodgers.

“It will be interesting to see whether Brendan tries to change a little bit,” continued McCoist, “I mean, they were wide open and soft against Dortmund.

“And it’s amazing, after the opening game they were full of confidence with that great 5-1 victory [over Slovan Bratislava] they were firmly put in their place.

“I think this is a very, very tough one for Celtic.”

Celtic fans got some positivity after Aston Villa and Clubb Brugge’s results last night so if Rodgers can somehow escape Italy with a point, then the European landscape would look so much more favourable for the Hoops.

After Atalanta, Celtic have two winnable games against RB Leipzig and Club Brugge and if Rodgers can get six points from those fixtures the qualification from the league phase becomes a real possibility for the Hoops.
