Premier League makes official Chelsea versus Newcastle decision following ‘absolute rubbish’ claim.

The referee has been confirmed for Newcastle United’s Premier League match against Chelsea on Sunday.

Newcastle United will be seeking to rebound from their defeat to Brighton when they travel to the city this

weekend to play Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

It will be a challenging tie for Eddie Howe’s side, made all the more interesting by the fact that Newcastle will face the Blues at St James’ Park three days later in the Carabao Cup.

Referee chosen for Chelsea vs. Newcastle.

Peter Bankes officiated Newcastle’s defeat against Brighton on Saturday. While numerous small rulings favored Brighton over Newcastle, there were no big situations for the referee to deal with during the 90-minute game.

Simon Hooper will be hoping for the same on Sunday when he takes command of Chelsea’s game against Newcastle at Stamford Bridge.

He has been appointed as referee, with Adrian Holmes and Simon Long serving as assistants. Rob Jones is the fourth official, with Jarred Gillett on VAR duty.

Hooper is officiating Newcastle for the first match this season. His last Toon game was last season’s final, when Eddie Howe’s side defeated Brentford 4-2 at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Simon Hooper was recently criticized.

The meeting at Stamford Bridge will be Hooper’s fifth Premier League match of the season.

His latest appearance was on October 5th, when he supervised Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

There was a moment of controversy in the game when Hooper chose not to award Crystal Palace a penalty after an incident involving Newcastle target Marc Guehi and Virgil van Dijk.

Van Dijk brought down the Crystal Palace captain in the box as the Eagles sought an equaliser, but Hooper waved off the protest. There was no VAR intervention, and former referee Keith Hackett characterized the verdict as ‘absolute rubbish’ in his Telegraph blog.

There will hopefully be no dispute between Newcastle and Chelsea as Eddie Howe encounters Enzo Maresca for the first time in his managerial career.
