Rory Wilson left the Rangers in 2022 after a disastrous season. The youthful striker set a record for the Ibrox

academy set-up with 49 goals last season before leaving for Aston Villa. The club lost a potential youngster with a lot

to give. Wilson would transfer to Villa Park and continue to excel with their academy squads, playing above his age

group and ensuring staff took notice. This season, however, the 18-year-old is nearing the end of the initial three-

year deal he signed before deciding to leave Glasgow, and there is still an impasse with his club.

According to the Athletic, the Premier League club, which is competing in this season’s Champions League, has given

the outstanding teenager a number of new five-year contracts. However, nothing has yet been signed.

According to the publication, Wilson still needs to improve before he can be seriously considered for Unai Emery’s

first squad, but his representatives are looking for a higher salary.

They allege Villa has refused to consider breaking through their own wage structure for the academy level, which

would require them to “more than double the best-paid player in the academy and more than the first contracts of

some members of Villa’s senior squad.” Contract talks have now been put on hold, which, combined with an ankle

ailment, is one of the alleged reasons why Emery has not given the teenager a chance in his main squad.
