Exclusive: Leicester City face additional points deduction after surprise twist.

According to sources who spoke with Football Insider,

Leicester City is facing additional uncertainty over points deduction after it seems that the Premier League has filed an appeal against the most recent ruling in their profit and sustainability (PSR) issue.

After declaring losses of £89.7 million for 2022–2023 alone, Leicester was punished in March for violating the Premier League’s PSR regulations. Top division teams are only allowed to lose £105 million over a rolling three-year period.

Leicester City is facing additional uncertainty over points deduction after it seems that the Premier League has filed an appeal against the most recent ruling in their profit and sustainability (PSR) issue.

After declaring losses of £89.7 million for 2022–2023 alone,

Leicester was punished in March for violating the Premier League’s PSR regulations. Top division teams are only allowed to lose £105 million over a rolling three-year period.

The Lawyer revealed on October 16 that the regulatory authority is currently preparing its legal departments to file an appeal of the ruling.

Football Insider has been informed by sources that the Premier League has probably already filed an appeal in an attempt to overturn the decision.

Premier League has “enormous” obstacles in the Leicester situation.

The Premier League handbook’s arbitration regulations provide limited avenues for contesting an appeal board’s ruling.

These include the panel’s decision-making body’s jurisdiction being exceeded,

the verdict being rendered due to fraud or bad faith, procedural errors, a twisted reading of the law,

or the decision being unreasonably reached by any panel that would have properly considered the circumstances of the case.

According to sources who spoke with Football Insider, the Premier League most likely filed their appeal on the grounds that it believed no sane panel could have come to that conclusion after hearing the evidence.

However, considering that two of the three panelists in question were once Court of Appeal judges,

it is recognized that this is a “enormously difficult” point to show.

Leicester would probably lose points if the decision is ultimately overturned because Everton and Nottingham Forest both lost points last season as a result of their PSR violations.

On September 4, Football Insider disclosed that the Leicestershire team, being on the verge of the PSR limit,

might have also violated the 2023–24 spending regulations.

Leicester was a Premier League team when they filed their accounts at the end of June,

despite playing in the Championship the previous season. Should they be found to have infringed any laws,

the governing body has the right to penalize them.

With three points above the relegation zone going into their trip to Southampton on Saturday,

Steve Cooper’s team is now in second place.
