Midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu will speak to prosecutors in an investigation into Inter Milan ultras the Curva Nord today.
This according to today’s pint edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They clarify that the Turk is not under investigation but will still answer questions about his relationship with the ultras.
Investigators in Italy have already spoken to a couple of high-profile figures at Inter.
There has been testimony from Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi, as well as Vice-President Javier Zanetti.
This has been to clarify what contacts there have been between official figures at Inter and the clubs’ ultras.
Prosecutors are looking to determine how the clubs may have partially facilitated the ultras’ activities.
To be clear, there is no investigation into any official figures at Inter. However, the prosecutors are still looking to collect testimony to better understand the ultras’ relationships with figures at the club.
Anti-mafia prosecutors made nineteen arrests last month. These were of leading members of Inter ultras group the Curva Nord and AC Milan counterparts the Curva Sud.
Prosecutors allege illegal activities as well as mafia connections from the Nord and the Sud.
Hakan Calhanoglu To Testify In Inter Milan Ultras Investigation
According to the Gazzetta, Calhanoglu will be the first Inter player to speak to prosecutors.
The 30-year-old former AC Milan midfielder will follow Inzaghi and Zanetti.
Calhanoglu’s testimony will concern his relations with the ultras.
Reports have indicated that this follows the Turkish international’s contacts with arrested ultras leader Marco Ferdico.
Calhanoglu is in the unique position of being both a current Inter and former Milan player during this investigation.
However, the 30-year-old’s testimony will specifically concern his relations with Nerazzurri ultras.
Calhanoglu naturally was not available to speak to investigators while with his national team.
However, the Turk returned to training yesterday. And today, it will be time for him to give his testimony.
