Nils Koppen has stated that Rangers attempted to sign Abdallah Sima over the summer.

The Ibrox director of football recruitment has revealed that bids were made to sign the forward on a permanent

contract. However, the figures were deemed “unrealistic,” and Rangers moved on to other targets, while the Brighton

youngster joined Stade Brest on loan. In an exclusive interview with the Rangers Review, Koppen stated that a

transfer pursuit had taken place, with a hefty fee offered to Brighton.

Discussions went made between the club and Sima’s representatives, but no agreement could be reached to

accommodate all sides, despite fees offered larger than those for Oscar Cortes. Koppen stated, “The idea was that we

weren’t going to return for Sima, but that is not the case. “We made an effort to get Sima back to Glasgow

permanently with a good offer, which was larger than the price agreed upon for Oscar Cortes.

“We tried to convince the player and the agent but the numbers were unrealistic so we pushed back on it.”

Meanwhile, Koppen believes Cortes’ move to Ibrox will be a success, despite being hampered by injury concerns.

He said, “Oscar came in with no injury history. “No injuries, no scans; everything was perfect,” Koppen says.

“We are looking into it as a club. I am still secure in the decision to bring him here. We signed him to a five-year

contract and remain optimistic about his long-term prospects.”
