Newcastle United handed quiet ‘assurance’ over ambitious plan and new PIF truth
Despite not having kicked a ball in 10 days, Newcastle United’s season received a boost when Thomas Tuchel was
announced as England’s next manager.
When the news about Tuchel leaked, it may be interpreted as a “quiet” assurance that the Magpies will no longer
have to fear about any prospective FA raids on their head coach in the near future.
Long before the final whistle blew against Greece in the humiliating 2-1 UEFA Nations League defeat, doubts were
raised regarding Lee Carsley’s suitability as a long-term alternative in the England dugout. The FA’s experiment had
failed spectacularly, and Eddie Howe was once again mentioned as a possible candidate for the top job.
After England’s defeat to Greece, Howe was not even approached for the job. However, following the loss at
Wembley and Carsley’s confusing press conferences, it was deemed that “enough was enough” and a more
permanent solution was sought, particularly with the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on the horizon.
Howe had been on the shortlist in the summer, but he never received a formal contact. Newcastle had expressed
their opinions on the matter earlier this year, and the FA backed down.
When asked if the club will battle to keep Howe, CEO Darren Eales responded, “Yes, absolutely.” He is exactly the
appropriate man for the project we are working on at Newcastle United, which is why we have committed to a long-
term contract with him. That is why we believe he is the appropriate man for Newcastle. “We love him.”
