Just in: Journo shares Leeds ‘Concern’ verdict ahead of January transfer window and the clash ahead
Daniel Farke will have “concern” about the strikers Leeds United currently have within their ranks, according to Graeme Bailey.
The Whites’ number nine role has had a fair few question marks looming over it since the start of the season due to the poor form of Mateo Joseph and Patrick Bamford’s recent injury record.
While Joseph managed to bag a first-half hat trick for Spain’s Under-21s after a 4-3 home victory over Kazakhstan on 10 October, this sort of goal-scoring prowess hasn’t been replicated in the Championship.
Speaking to LeedsUnited News before the game (10 October), Bailey shared his thoughts on Leeds’ striker situation and thinks there’s a lack of belief from Farke about whether their current number nines can score the goals needed.
“I think they’ll be looking all over. Attacking-wise, I think Mateo Joseph has looked good, but there is a concern about the lack of goals, clearly,” he said.
“From my understanding, I don’t really think there is a belief that Piroe, Bamford or Gelhardt are the ones to get them goals”.
Mateo Joseph needs to replicate his international form for Leeds United
It’s clear that the West Yorkshire outfit expects big things to come from Joseph as he gets later into his career.
In fact, Farke has even shared his worries about the player potentially getting a move away in January despite his form not being up to scratch.
Since the start of the 2024/25 term, the 20-year-old has only managed to bag one goal for Leeds across all competitions thus far.
Granted, his first-half hat trick was likely made possible due to the gulf in quality between Spain’s under-21s side and Kazakhstan’s, however, putting the ball into the back of the net is done by the same actions no matter what opponent you’re facing.
