Owner of Sunderland Kyril Louis-Dreyfus is about to take on what might be the hardest task of his career.
Following his appointment as chairman in early 2021,
Kyril Louis-Dreyfus has kept Sunderland moving forward.
After a setback last season, he led the team out of League One, to a Championship play-off finish,
and now to the top of the Championship table with the Black Cats.
The individual in charge is Regis Le Bris.
After a turbulent summer that saw criticism directed at Kristjaan Speakman and Louis-Dreyfus,
he is so far proven to be a strong appointment.
Le Bris is not the only player Speakman has signed that is doing well;
Louis-Dreyfus’s investments are paying off once more.
After paying an initial £13.5 million for the player who scored 15 goals in the Championship the previous season,
the club did lose Jack Clarke to Ipswich Town.
January is coming up quickly now.
It will be another difficult month for Louis-Dreyfus, one that is both prosperous and full of possible dangers.
The transfer window in January will reveal Kyril Louis-Dreyfus’ true colors.
Speakman has raised the bar after a few inconsistent transfer windows with their successful summer window.
The players that Sunderland sign could determine whether or not they get promoted this season.
However, there’s a lot more anxiety and attention surrounding
the players who might depart the Stadium of Light before January.
A number of players, including Dan Ballard, Jobe Bellingham, and Trai Hume,
expressed interest in transferring during the summer.
Anthony Patterson and Chris Rigg have both been linked to Manchester United since the summer transfer market closed.

Kyril Louis-Dreyfus had to fight the impulse to snap up Sunderland earnings too quickly.
Given Sunderland’s starting lineup and the length of some players’ contracts,
it is obvious that the team will profit handsomely from player sales in the upcoming years.
Similar to Clarke, Sunderland needs to timing it correctly. And in terms of timing,
everything comes down to the cost as well as the fact that the Black Cats are currently in the running for a promotion.
Before the season started, there were low expectations. Now, though,
we’ve seen enough to anticipate that Sunderland will make a serious run for promotion this year.
If Louis-Dreyfus takes player offers in January, that might not be feasible.
One or two may be unavoidable. However, in all likelihood, Le Bris and the fans won’t see any.
Furthermore, extending the player’s stay until January
by another six months is probably not going to hurt their transfer value—if anything,
it will raise it—and Sunderland will have more time in the summer to renegotiate better terms.
Large-scale transfer transactions will be difficult to block,
but Louis-Dreyfus and Sunderland have already demonstrated remarkable patience in the transfer market,
so they need to hold onto that belief for a little while longer.
