JUST IN : Nottingham Forest dealt new injury blow on top of Morgan Gibbs-White

Goalkeeper Matz Sels was forced out of the Belgium squad due to injury;

he will now return to Nottingham Forest for additional evaluation.

The 32-year-old was going to be relied upon as his country’s most senior goalkeeping

option in the wake of a fresh injury to Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois. As a result,

he was scheduled to fill in for Italy and France in the Nations League. However,

due to a delayed fitness test, he will not play and will instead stay

at Forest for the duration of the international break.

While Ortwin de Wolf of KC Mechelen, who replaces Sels with his first senior call-up,

will be happy with the situation, Nuno Espirito Santo and company won’t be.

It follows after Morgan Gibbs-White had to withdraw from

England’s October internationals due to an injury he sustained during

the weekend’s draw against Chelsea.

In contrast to his colleague, Sels remained at Stamford Bridge

the entire time without exhibiting any signs of trouble.

The same can be said of Forest’s two clean sheets throughout the team’s seven

Premier League games this season, which have put them in 10th place in the standings.

However, he has since reportedly sustained an adductor injury. At this point,

no information regarding the severity of the issue or when he might return has been provided,

and it will be crucial to conduct additional testing at the City Ground during the international break.

Following the current break Forest face Crystal Palace on Monday,

October 21 before travelling to Leicester City for a reunion with Steve Cooper four days later. Before the November internationals, they have two more Premier League games to play.
Carlos Miguel, a £3.4 million summer acquisition, would be Sels’ obvious substitute should he be unable to make it back in time for any of these. The 6’8″ 26-year-old earned his competitive debut in August’s Carabao Cup exit to Newcastle United via penalty shoot-out, but he has yet to play in the Premier League for the team.
