Breaking: Celtic Reject Lucrative Premier Sport TV: Reasons in details……

Celtic have rejected the chance to earn some extra revenue after turning down the opportunity to have more Scottish Premiership matches screened live on Premier Sports.

67 Hail Hail discussed recently how a debate was brewing

about the fact the upcoming Celtic vs Aberdeen is not being broadcast live on television

And with Premier Sports now holding a contract to broadcast a further 20 Scottish top-flight games live on TV, hopes that the top-of-the-table clash between The Dons and Celtic being shown live are now gone.

The original scheduled kick-off time of 3pm on the 19th of October will now stand but at what cost to Celtic?

Celtic lose a minimum of £75,000 per home Scottish Premiership fixture

The Daily Mail has reported that Celtic have ‘opted out’ of an SPFL contract that gave Premier Sports the rights to televise a further 20 Scottish Premiership games this season.

This deal was on top of the current Sky Sports contract that has allowed Celtic fans to watch their heroes in action in away grounds across Scotland.

However, it seems that by opting out of the Premier Sports contract, Celtic have turned down the chance to earn £75,000 per home game with a maximum of £150,000 up for grabs if two Parkhead fixtures are broadcast.

The report also makes it clear that the reason Celtic didn’t take up the option with Premier Sports is that the club didn’t want to ‘inconvenience’ season ticket holders and those fans who make travel arrangements to come and watch the Bhoys at Celtic Park.

The number of games Celtic have already moved to accommodate broadcasters

Before this new season kicked off, Celtic had to move two Scottish Premiership fixtures with St Mirren and Rangers to accommodate Sky Sports’ TV schedule.

Since then, the Hoops support have had just one 3pm Saturday kick-off time which was Celtic’s 2-0 win over Hearts on the 14th of September

Overall, five games were moved to a Sunday slot whilst Celtic’s 6-0 hammering of St Johnstone was given an unusual slot of 5:45pm on Saturday 28th of September.

And to further highlight how Hoops supporters are further inconvenienced by the broadcasters, Celtic’s fixtures up until the end of December have just three Saturday 3pm kick-off times pencilled in against Ross County on the 30th of November, Hibs at Celtic Park on the 7th of December and Dundee away on the 14th of December.
