Report: Celtic rivals sack manager before Champions League game
Celtic’s Champions League campaign so far has been a mixed bag. The opener was the highest of highs as they defeated Slovan Bratislava by a 5-1 scoreline in front of the Parkhead crowd. It is rare for the Hoops to score five goals in Europe these days. But then, they were brought back down to Earth, losing 7-1 against Borussia Dortmund away in Germany.
Those two results have left Celtic in the playoff positions after two matchdays. If they finish there at the end of the first phase of the competition, they will be satisfied.
On the other hand, one of the teams that Celtic will face in the Champions League later this season, BSC Young Boys, find themselves at the bottom of the table. They have lost both of their games so far.
YB conceded 8 goals over those two games, against Barcelona and Aston Villa, and are yet to score. And now, it looks like the club have made a tough decision in hopes of turning things around.
As tweeted by the Swiss club, the sporting management of BSC Young Boys has decided to release head coach Patrick Rahmen with immediate effect. U21 coach Joel Magnin will take over the team on an interim basis until further notice.
Celtic might have suffered a heavy defeat against Borussia Dortmund but qualification to the next phase of the competition is not out of the question. They have been handed a few winnable games for sure and the one against YB certainly falls under that category. Of course, they cannot afford to take any match for granted at this level.
