Premier League striker have joined Celtic
Celtic have plenty of nearly-miss transfer stories in their recent history. Everybody will remember how close they were to signing Ivan Toney before deciding to bring in Albian Ajeti instead.
We all know how that one worked out.
There is another highly-rated striker who had had a trial with the Hoops but chose to join Brighton & Hove Albion.
Today, he is one of the most highly-rated youngsters in world football and it would take a transfer fee of around £50 million from Brighton & Hove Albion. We are talking about Evan Ferguson.
Ferguson is one of the brightest talents in the Premier League right now. He has been around for a while and perhaps the hype around him has faded away a bit in recent times. But one cannot forget that he is still just 19 years of age.
Ferguson has already made almost 70 appearances for Brighton & Hove Albion and scored 16 goals for the Seagulls. But if things had worked out a bit differently, he might have been playing for Celtic today
It would be safe to say that Celtic have struggled to provide a pathway to youngsters in recent years. Rarely has anyone come through the academy ranks and become a starter for the Hoops. The last one to do so was Kieran Tierney and it has been more than five years since he left for Arsenal.
So, it is not hard to understand why someone like Ferguson would choose a move to Brighton & Hove Albion over Celtic. Let’s see if he ends up becoming a regular starter there someday.
