Just In: Graeme Murty reveals his strategy for two Black Cats starlets, Sunderland’s leader mentions Lionel Messi.
Graeme Murty, the manager, has issued a warning to anyone who might get overly excited by Sunderland’s 6-0 thumping of Derby County’s Under-21 team: be careful of setting unrealistic expectations.
The Sunderland young manager is familiar with how things often operate at this level, having spent the most of his coaching career in academy football.
Subsequent to concluding his criticism of the shortcomings in a performance that Murty believes lacked the necessary conviction despite the 6-0 score, the former coach of Norwich City and Rangers was eager to contain the enthusiasm surrounding the onslaught of left-back Jenson Jones.
Jones led the Derby thrashing with one goal and an assist. However, he still has a lot of work to do, especially in terms of his physicality.

Quoting the great Lionel Messi, Murty stated after the game, “I think everyone is keen to see a snapshot of a player,” cautioning fans against having unrealistic expectations too soon.
“Jenson has spent a very long time here. Did Messi say that it takes 17 years to become a household name?
It is common to see that players grow, mature, and mature at varying rates.
Some of them are technical, some are physical, but we need to make sure we are considering the entire year.
“You tend to see that Jenson is gradually becoming more active.
Physically, he is behind some of his classmates, so we need to be careful to foster Jenson’s development,”
Murty continues of Jones, who first assisted Nazariy Rusyn before scoring a goal of his own.
“We need to make sure that we set long-term goals for him and assist his development in a more sustained manner.”
Graeme Murty wants to make sure Watson from Sunderland has a good future.
Murty continues, “We have to be really, really careful.” Tommy is a skilled athlete. He’s doing fairly well. He is enjoying himself greatly.
We need to ensure that this doesn’t end up being his year’s high point. If this is the high point, we should really examine our program and the way we assist our players because we want this to be a regular occurrence.
“We want Tommy to use this as a launching pad in the future.
We take great care when messaging friends, family, and anybody else who might be observing him. This young man is still honing his craft. He is going to make errors.
He will occasionally be quite raw, so we need to be sure to treat him consistently.
Not overly elevated. Not too little, either. Provide him with accurate information at the appropriate moment.
“Tommy is a pleasure to work with.” Even though he isn’t always the most gregarious, he studies, pays attention, and strives to do the right things.
And we hope that Tommy continues to grow, develop,
and find a space where he may evolve and flourish at his own speed throughout the course of the year.
That can be challenging at times because everyone, including the gamer, wants everything immediately.
