To say that the Dallas Cowboys have suffered a great deal of injuries would be a major understatement.

In addition to Micah Parsons missing this week due to a high ankle sprain, DeMarcus Lawrence, DaRon Bland,

and Brandin Cooks are the other three starters on injured reserve.

A team can only take so many injuries before things get out of hand throughout the season.

With two elite edge rushers and an All-Pro cornerback gone,

the Cowboys are at risk of suffering additional injuries on defense.

Particularly the defensive line has been completely destroyed,

and on Sunday night it took yet another hit as rookie DE Marshawn Kneeland left

the game in the first quarter due to what appeared to be a knee injury.

A commercial break was observed during the game while Kneeland was being treated on the field.

Kneeland needed assistance getting off the field and was carried to the locker room.

The Cowboys said it is doubtful if he will play again.

Kneeland is returning to the changing area for an X-ray.

Although Kneeland was unable to apply any pressure to his right leg and the replay appeared to indicate a non-contact injury,

it is promising that he wasn’t ruled out immediately after leaving the field.

UPDATE: Due to a knee injury, Kneeland has been ruled out.
It would be disastrous to lose Kneeland for any length of time given that they are already behind

Parsons and Lawrence on the defensive line. The Western Michigan product, selected in the second round,

has shown promise early in his career, especially as a run defender.
After Lawrence, Kneeland has played the second-most defensive end snaps for Dallas going into

Week 5. According to Pro Football Focus, he has eight tackles, six pressures, four defensive stops,

and four quarterback hits.

While those aren’t very high stats, they are noteworthy for a rookie,

and Kneeland’s value as a plus run defender extends beyond the stat sheet.
All we can do is hope Kneeland was spared a major injury. The Cowboys,

who are struggling defensively, are now down to Tyrus Wheat, Carl Lawson,

and Chauncey Golston. Dallas removed K.J. Henry from the Bengals practice squad due to their injury issue,

and he is a healthy scratch tonight.

The Cowboys are without their top four edge rushers—Kneeland, Parsons, Lawrence,

and Sam Williams—after Williams suffered an ACL tear during training camp. It is incomprehensible.
