Tim Walter was left unhappy with referee Tom Nield who disallowed a Joao Pedro goal on his Hull City debut as the Tigers suffered a 4-0 defeat at Norwich City.
City were 3-0 down at Carrow Road but Pedro turned in from an Abu Kamara cross late in the game, a goal which the German felt may well have sparked a comeback in the final moments.
Referee Nield, along with his assistant, decided Pedro had diverted the cross into the back of the net with his arm. But having seen replays, Walter was not happy with the decision, suggesting it was his shoulder, which, under the latest handball rules, should have been allowed.
Walter was also frustrated with the penalty decision which, for the second successive game, went against Lewie Coyle, who was penalised for handball, though Josh Sargent slammed the penalty against Ivor Pandur’s post.
“It’s a goal for me, it’s a goal with the shoulder,” the German told Hull Live at Carrow Road. “On the other side, the assistant winked and it is a penalty, and I don’t know why.
“It’s not the excuse that we lost here, but sometimes it is frustrating. Like I said, they deserved to win because they were more clinical than we were. Everybody else has to decide and have to drive home with a good feeling and if you had a good performance on the pitch, you can drive home with a good feeling.”
