Daniel Farke describes Illan Meslier’s reaction in the locker room following a costly Leeds United mistake.
Following his error that lost Leeds United a victory over Sunderland,
Daniel Farke has provided insight into Illan Meslier‘s mental state in the team’s locker room.
Deep into stoppage time, Leeds was ahead 2-1 and appeared to have handled a simple
Sunderland free-kick until the ball inexplicably rebounded past Meslier and into the net.
As he raced off the ground and down the tunnel at full time, Junior Firpo could not
contain his rage at Meslier’s mistake, which ultimately led to Sunderland’s late equaliser
being ruled an own goal.
Incidentally, it was actually Firpo’s superbly executed effort that had seemed as
though it was enough for Leeds to secure three points.
Joel Piroe’s equaliser in the first half gave Leeds the lead, and Firpo was able to
pull them even, but it wasn’t enough to take the three points.
Farke shares Meslier Leeds dressing room reaction
At full time, Meslier could not contain his laughter as he was seen giggling with his
former boss at Lorient Regis Le Bris, who was incredulous about his good fortune.
Yet, Meslier told Daniel Farke that it was a different scenario in the locker room
when he was alone with his teammates.
Meslier didn’t provide an explanation because, as Farke stated in his news conference
following the game, “it wasn’t the right time to say anything.”
