Jose Mourinho is a “strong option” to succeed Sean Dyche at Everton once Dan Friedkin’s takeover is completed, according to Football

Insider sources. The 59-year-old American investor secured an agreement with current owner Farhad Moshiri to buy his 94.1% share in

the club.

Mourinho, 61, only took control at Turkish club Fenerbache in the summer, but sources have informed Football Insider that “don’t rule

Jose out”. The three-time Premier League winner has been suggested in top quarters at Liverpool as a potential replacement for the failing

Dyche, 53. Friedkin has a history with Mourinho, having appointed him to his other major European club Roma in 2021 after his rocky

tenure at Tottenham. Despite the takeover negotiations, Dyche’s fate was uncertain following a terrible start to the season until Everton

won their first win in six Premier League games last weekend. Friedkin, 59, who also owns Italian club Roma, is said to have told his inner

circle that he does not see Dyche as a viable long-term manager for the club or the ideal person to lead them out at the new stadium.

The former Burnley manager’s contract expires at the end of the season, and Everton insiders believe it will not be extended. Dyche’s spell

at Everton was his least successful as a manager, with 24 wins, 17 draws, and 30 loses for a 34% win record.

Everton are poised to depart Goodison Park for a new 52,888-seater stadium at Liverpool’s Bramley-Moore Dock next year, and under

Dyche, they face the very real prospect of doing so while still in the Championship. Dyche’s contract is due to expire at the end of the

season and insiders at Everton don’t expect it to be renewed. They next face a challenging home fixture against Newcastle United, who are

inspired by an outstanding 1-1 draw with current Premier League winners Manchester City on Saturday (September 28).
