Brendan Rodgers was in a defiant mood as he faced the media for the first time after Celtic vs. Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.
It was another difficult night for the hoops, who were reminded that the gap they face entering
UEFA‘s top tournament is equal to the advantage they have over the majority of their local opponents.
It’s never a good idea for a manager to take over immediately after a game.
Rodgers is feeling very raw, knowing that his detractors had a field day watching Celtic
falter like St Johnstone did on Saturday.
A defense is inevitable since no one likes to publicly confess that they made serious mistakes.
but Rodgers went into double-down zone and refused to acknowledge that they needed to play
differently after losing to the Champions League finalists four months prior.
With just two domestic games remaining, Celtic’s next most difficult game
is three weeks away in Atlanta. All eyes will be on Aaron Rodgers to see what he can
do in the harshest of environments.
I don’t believe I’ve ever played a game where we were essentially penalized for every error we made.
That’s the degree. That’s the pinnacle of contemporary football. For that, we were penalized.
Our confidence was affected by the early goals, and we didn’t play with the same vigor.
They were performing to a great degree.
Even though the boys played with a lot more energy in the second half and we had more
ball possession and creative risks, we were ultimately defeated by a superior squad.
Rodgers continued, saying:
Although we must constantly adjust, there are moments when the quality simply transcends that.
Will we just set up camp and wait all day long? We won’t do that, sorry.
We play in a way that gives us the advantage of dominance at home.
We have to demonstrate our skill with the ball even if we know it will be challenging for us
at times to do that. We weren’t even close to that tonight; we gave it away too easily.
We were then penalized for that.
The Ross County away game on Sunday is not expected to reveal any indication of a shift
in strategy as the clock moves closer to Atalanta on October 23.
