As they besieged Ross Sinclair’s goal, the champions showed their unstoppable nature.

Goals from Kyogo Furuhashi (2), Paulo Bernardo, Callum McGregor, Daizen Maeda, and Adam Idah highlighted the visitors’ dominance.

A contentious VAR decision was made to nullify what appeared to be a goal by Maeda when the game was still deadlocked at zero points.

With a sweeping low drive that required only a few touches off the overworked goalie’s glove to deflect

onto the inside of the left-hand post and deprive the deadline-day signing his second Hoops reply,

Luke McCowan, a late replacement for McGregor, was out of luck.

After providing thunderous support the entire way, Brendan Rodgers’ team now hopes to make a significant impression on

Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night at the Westfalstadion in their second Champions League match.

After a quarter of an hour of jousting between the players, the Irishman was more than

happy with his team’s unwavering performance against the Perth team.

“I’m very, very pleased,” beaming Rodgers exclaimed, “because it was everything you would want from your team:

intensity, technique, hunger, and quality.”

“I think we were pretty good in the game, and I mentioned before the game that this was an opportunity

to really display our approach and our mentality.

Although there had been a lot of talk previously about Dortmund, the Champions League, and other things,

we still saw this as a very important game and wanted to take advantage of the chance as best we could.

“And from the first whistle to the very end, I don’t think the players could have done any better;

their attitude throughout the game was excellent.”

“The team is very well synchronised in how they press, how they move, how they close the spaces,

and the area that I want us to be different from any other team – the counter-press,” Rodgers said in an interview with Celtic TV.

“And that denies you opportunities; you won’t have complete possession;

I’m not sure what the numbers are, but we respected that time and made a concerted effort to regain possession of the ball.”

The Hoops coach continued, “Now that we’ve got this out of the way with a great performance,

we know we can go there with real confidence.” His team has scored 20 goals in the Premiership without giving up any.

“It’s great for the supporters that we have almost a full day to finalise our plan and idea for the game before travelling there.

They have the ability to live that dream.

“We’re heading to a fantastic stadium, and we’re going there to demonstrate all the attributes

that should provide us a chance to win the game.”
