Alan Shearer rages at what he saw in Everton v Crystal Palace—’Terrible.’

Alan Shearer expressed shock that James Tarkowski, who was playing for Everton

in their 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace, did not receive a disputed penalty call.

At Goodison Park on Saturday [September 28], the Blues overcame a one-goal deficit

thanks to a brace from Dwight McNeil to earn their first Premier League victory of the year.

But according to Shearer, who was talking about the game on The Rest is Football

[30 September, 42:27], Tarkowski’s challenge on Jean-Philippe Mateta on the edge

of the penalty box was fortunate for the Toffees not to go behind two goals at the half.

“I thought it was a terrible decision. Palace should have had another penalty

that might have made it 2-0 if that had been given a penalty.

“I thought it was a terrible challenge, but they got away with it.”

Fortunately, James Tarkowksi did not cost Everton at Crystal Palace.

Every Premier League team has what might be considered pivotal events

throughout a given season. This choice will undoubtedly be remembered by Everton

as the turning point in their fortunes.

The video indicates Tarkowski believed he should have been sent off for his foul on Mateta.

but the Blues still had a one-goal disadvantage to overcome.

so the incident shouldn’t overshadow their success.

With four points from six games and his team climbing from the foot of the table

and out of the relegation zone, Sean Dyche will be the happiest man on Merseyside this week.

In contrast to past seasons, Everton has excellent depth at center defense.

If Tarkowski is suspended for his potentially costly error,

Jake O’Brien is ready to take Tarkowski’s position.

Even if the Blues have played well, the outcome feels significant for the team

and a turning point for Dyche, who has faced criticism from the first game.

With Nathan Patterson and Seamus Coleman getting close to returning,

Everton can restore their standing as one of the top defenses in the Premier League.

Jarrad Branthwaite has been sorely missed and reminded Evertonians

how defensively solid the team becomes when he’s on the pitch.
