Averting Key Missteps in the Bulls’ Rebuild Strategy

As the new season approaches, it is clear that the Chicago Bulls are entering a rebuilding stage. The departures of

major players such as DeMar DeRozan, Alex Caruso, and Andre Drummond have reduced the roster’s size. However,

they have also added new players such as former Thunder guard Josh Giddey.

Giddey’s position was reduced in his final season with the Thunder, as the squad emerged as a viable title candidate.

Significantly, he struggled on defense and was regularly benched during the postseason. This led to him being moved

to the Bulls in exchange for All-Defensive Guard Caruso.

As the new season approaches, it is evident that the Chicago Bulls are going through a rebuilding process. The

departure of key players like DeMar DeRozan, Alex Caruso, and Andre Drummond has reduced the roster size.

However, they have also signed new players, including former Thunder guard Josh Giddey.

Giddey’s role was reduced in his final season with the Thunder, as the team emerged as a title contender. Significantly,

he struggled on defense and was frequently benched in the postseason. This resulted in him being traded to the Bulls

in exchange for All-Defensive Guard Caruso.

Giddey’s extension before the season starts can turn out to be a grave error. Giddey has the option to sign an

extension, but it’s unlikely that he’ll receive a contract as lucrative as some of the guys in his draft class. Giddey is

expected to play a major role in the Bulls’ future as they get ready for the next campaign.

He is regarded as an important component of the group that also includes Matas Buzelis, Coby White, Patrick

Williams, and Ayo Dosunmu. Giddey could see plenty of playing time as seasoned players like Zach LaVine and Nikola

Vucevic are probably going to be departing shortly. Giddey might receive more opportunities because it is anticipated

that the Bulls will struggle in the following season.

It was critical that the Bulls gain something from the trade of Caruso. However, it would be foolish to decide on

Giddey’s deal before determining how well he fits with the squad. Giddey’s role on the redesigned Bulls team will be

determined by his interactions with White, Williams, and Buzelis. Should he be able to maintain his spot and improve

both offensively and defensively, he might be worth a larger contract next summer.
