Tom English reacts as Rangers celebrate online after ‘really good’ Europa League victory
According to Tom English, Rangers were “really good” away at Malmo as the Light Blues
emerged victorious in an online debate about their triumph.
The top columnist for BBC Scotland responded via X after the Light Blues’ official account
mockingly praised their European rivals for the “warm welcome.”
and stated that the Gers were already “missing you” following the thrilling 2-0 victory.
The post was a reaction to a film that Malmo’s own social media team had uploaded prior
to the match, in which they said, “We’ve missed you,” and highlighted their own victories
from 2011 and 2021, which had placed Rangers, respectively, “in the fourth division.”
and “in the Europa League final.”
On the way back to Glasgow, English shared a meme in response to Rangers’ mic-drop reaction,
concurring with a fan that the win had been “really good.”
Nedim Bajrami stars as Rangers down Malmo
The Light Blues don’t have many fond memories of facing Malmo.
but this win—their first against any Swedish opposition—might be a turning moment
for Philippe Clement’s team.
The season has gotten off to a bad start with chaos off the field and a huge gap
to Celtic clearly apparent. But this was the kind of performance that gives this team confidence
—Nedim Bajrami was excellent in just his third game for the team.
and Rangers might have easily scored five goals.
The Albanian joined on Transfer Deadline Day, but his debut at Dundee United proved
to be a very poor half; he had to wait till after the international break.
Nevertheless, he should have had a hat-trick of assists if Vaclav Cerny, Cyriel Dessers,
and Neraysho Kasanwirjo had scored spectacular goals. Instead,
he opened the score in the first minute when Dessers struck the post.
Despite Dessers’ subpar finishing, his link-up play with the Nigerian forward in particular
was a significant plus.
However, the striker did put in a great all-around performance in a match
where Ross McCausland’s impact off the bench ensured the victory,
and Clement was denied Hamza Igamane’s opportunity to play.
