Newcastle United board set for imminent change

On Friday, July 12, 2024, the Newcastle United owners announced that Amanda Staveley will resign from all responsibilities with the

club, including the Newcastle United board.

Newcastle United fans reacted differently to the news. Many others were taken aback by the news, as they had not expected it.

A handful of supporters were unsurprised by the club’s official declaration (see below). Their belief was that this was almost certain to

happen as we reached three years after the takeover, with Amanda Staveley playing a key role in completing the transaction and then

supporting in the difficult immediate period following Mike Ashley’s departure.

Ashley had guaranteed that Newcastle United had been reduced to a skeleton workforce, with no recognized high-level executive team to

govern the club on a daily basis, nor a legitimate Newcastle United board to operate above that level.

Instead, it was a preposterous situation in which Lee Charnley was the only officially named executive assisting to run the club on a daily

basis, as well as the sole member of the Newcastle United board! To comply with legal requirements, Ashley was designated as a single

board member, but Ashley depended on select members of his Sports Direct inner circle to remotely supervise his NUFC interests. This is

the current position on the Newcastle United board.
