European football boasts lots of in-form free-scoring centre-forwards, notably Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, who is still breaking

Premier League records. The Norwegian superstar has been a revelation at the Etihad, scoring 100 goals in 105 games over two years.

However, Viktor Gyokeres, a newcomer to Liga Portugal, is keeping up with him in front of the goal.

The Swedish forward is scoring freely at the Jose Alvalade Stadium and has wowed the globe with his performances. On Sunday

(September 22nd, 2024), he scored twice in Sporting CP’s 3-0 victory over AVS Futebol SAD. It’s easy to forget that Gyokeres spent the

most of his early career in the English football pyramid.

Gyokeres struggled to get on the pitch during his three-year stint at Brighton & Hove Albion and was loaned out for additional playing

time. He impressed at Coventry City in the EFL Championship before making a permanent move to The Sky Blues in July 2021 for a

measly £1 million.

Fast forward three years, and Gyokeres is apparently on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar, with a lucrative move to the Lilywhites being

discussed. He could be one to watch in 2025, with other European elites expected to join the race for his signature.

Gyokeres’ form for Ruben Amorim’s side has alerted Tottenham to his prospective availability, and Ange Postecoglou may be attracted to

sign the 22-cap Sweden international. Spurs are allegedly watching his status and may compete with Chelsea and PSG for the former

Brighton player during next summer’s transfer window. They will have to pay £85 million to trigger his release clause and attract him

away from Lisbon.

The 6’2″ attacker has just over three years left on his contract with Sporting, and the Portuguese club will be desperate to keep him. He

has 11 goals and three assisted in eight games across competitions this season. He is ranked 10th on Transfermarkt’s list of Europe’s top

scorers.
