In terms of international allegiance, Paul Wanner has not yet committed to either Germany or Austria. The 18-year-old is eligible for both

countries and has so far played for Germany’s youth teams, but he is not “cap-tied” because he has not played for either nation’s senior

teams. Fellow Austrian and parent club Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund may or may not have given him a hint as to

who to represent.

It is his decision to make. As an Austrian, I have nothing against his playing for Austria. However, in general, Paul must make his own

decisions and follow his heart. I believe Heidenheim is absolutely the appropriate setting for him. We are, of course, closely tracking him

and keeping in touch because we have a plan for him.

Wanner’s development into a world-class player may obviate the need to buy Florian Wirtz for attacking midfield positions.
