BREAKING! Wolves’ defender has been ruled out of the season…

Wolves have suffered an injury in the area of the pitch that they are short on numbers on.

Wolves have confirmed that Yerson Mosquera’s season is pretty much over after suffering an injury against Aston Villa.

The centre-back was forced off on a stretcher in the 3-1 defeat at Aston Villa after colliding with Morgan Rovers. To make matters worse, he was yellow carded and required lengthy treatment, before being replaced by Santiago Bueno in the 82nd minute.

At the time, manager Gary O’Neil said the injury didn’t look good, whilst reports from South America claiming of damage to the medial collateral ligament (MCL) and to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), have proven to be right. Mosquera is now set to undergo surgery in the coming fortnight, and the club will provide the help he needs, in what will be a long road to recovery.

Speaking to the official club website, head of high performance Phil Hayward said: “Yerson has now had all of the various assessments and scans which unfortunately confirm injuries to the medial collateral ligament (MCL) and the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

“We will be visiting specialists in the coming days to finalise the plan for surgery; this will take place in the next two weeks.

“Clearly there is a long recovery period ahead for Yerson, and the club will be providing all the support he needs to ensure a successful rehabilitation and a return to competition in due course.

“Timescales are difficult to state prior to surgery but it is highly unlikely he will feature again this season.”

Centre-back is an area of concern for Wolves, as they were unable to find an immediate replacement for Max Kilman. They sold their club captain to West Ham for £40m, but didn’t buy a replacement, despite being linked with various different players.

Bastien Meupiyou joined on a five-year deal from Nantes, but arrived with a pre-existing injury, and has yet to make his debut. The 18-year-old arrived at Molineux having made one senior appearance for the French side.

It was reported last week that Wolves were considering adding to their defensive options with Joel Matip on their radar. The former Liverpool defender is a free agent, but there is no space for him in their squad after submitting a 25-man squad list. He would only be available if someone were to be moved on in January, and the 33-year-old hasn’t played a competitive match since December.
