BREAKING NEWS: Chris Sutton announces to fans about Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic exit for EPL side.
It’s not even the end of September and Brendan Rodgers has already been tipped to leave Celtic, with West Ham United getting a mention.
What is even worse for West Ham is that their supporters are already disgruntled with their new manager – Julen Lopetegui – after their abject start to the season.
The Hammers were beaten 3-0 at home to Chelsea on Saturday – their third straight home loss and that’s the first time it has happened in their history.
Some would argue, that’s what happens when you hound out ex-Celtic man David Moyes from the job, even though he won you a trophy for the first time in decades.
But given Lopetegui’s rocky start, the name of Rodgers, who won the double upon his return to Celtic last season, was brought up.
Not only did the Irishman make a stunning return, but Celtic are now also flying this season and expectations are higher than ever before.
In recent years, the Bhoys have disappointed in Europe, but many believe that Celtic can reach the knockout stages of the Champions League this season.
Never mind Celtic being a bigger club than West Ham, Chris Sutton was pretty quick to respond to a supporter of the East London club suggesting Rodgers take the gig at the London Stadium.
First of all, he reminded everyone that Rodgers is at a ‘huge club north of the border’ before stating in a blunt fashion that he ‘wouldn’t want to downgrade’, as he told 606 on BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.
Rodgers already made this mistake with Leicester City and he knows fully well that he won’t be making it again.
Brendan Rodgers at West Ham United
“I am going to give him (Julen Lopetegui) until Christmas,” insisted the West Ham fan. “Another possible name that I think would have done a good job is Brendan Rodgers, with the jobs he has done.”
Sutton was quick to respond: “He is at a huge club north of the border. Oh, come on. He wouldn’t want to downgrade (even if the money was right) and go to West Ham from Celtic.”
Brendan Rodgers in the Champions League with Celtic
To nobody’s surprise, Celtic are steamrolling everyone and many can see multiple trophies being won again, it’s just a matter of how many.
But the one the Celtic supporters are most excited about is the Champions League and reaching the knockout stages.
Rodgers has made the perfect start in Europe and now a mouth-watering tie against Borussia Dortmund awaits.
That’s better than trying to scrape West Ham to a Europa Conference League finish, or in this season’s case, away from the relegation zone in the Premier League.
