Erling Haaland is a clear contender having scored seven goals in just three games. With a goal against Chelsea and hat-tricks against West Ham United and Ipswich Town, the Norwegian has had the best goalscoring start to a league season ever.

Even though Bryan Mbeumo’s comeback of three goals in as many games is not as outrageous as it once was, it is still amazing. Substituting for Brentford in the absence of Ivan Toney, Mbeumo scored once against Crystal Palace and then again against Southampton.

Danny Welbeck, a forward for Brighton, completes the shortlist. The Seagulls’ unblemished start to the season was capped off by a magnificent performance against Everton and a pivotal goal against old employers Manchester United.
