Aston Villa suffer injury blow as key star expected to miss upcoming clash v Manchester United
Aston Villa suffered a major injury on Saturday, with John McGinn picking up a problem that is expected to keep him
out of the upcoming clash against Manchester United in two weeks’ time.
The Scotland international was replaced at half-time in the comeback win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, as Ollie Watkins,
Ezri Konsa and Jon Duran scored in the second period to continue the club’s excellent start to the season.
But McGinn’s injury added a sour note to the afternoon for the Villans. “It’s his hamstring,”
manager Unai Emery confirmed after the game. “In January against Tottenham he had a hamstring injury as well.
He will not be available I think for a few weeks.”
It means McGinn is expected to miss United’s trip to Villa Park on 6 October,
as well as upcoming games against Wycombe Wanderers, Ipswich Town and Bayern Munich.
As for United, they face FC Twente, Tottenham and Porto before the Villa clash.
While the Midlands club picked up three points once again on Saturday,
it was another frustrating afternoon for United in the capital.
Erik ten Hag’s side dominated for long spells of the first half against Crystal Palace but couldn’t find a
way past ex-United goalkeeper Dean Henderson in the opposition goal.
The Red Devils also had to rely on a wonderful double save from Andre Onana in the second half to preserve their clean sheet,
with the game ultimately ending 0-0.
It means United have collected just seven points from the opening five league matches of the new season,
and, alarmingly, have managed just one goal per game.
