Ranger ace Nico Raskin sends a message to Abdallah Sima on what he performed in the Champions League
Nico Raskin has messaged former Rangers teammate Abdallah Sima, who scored for Brest in the Champions League.
The Senegalese forward, who spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Ibrox, scored in the second half as the French side defeated Sturm Graz 2-1 on Thursday (19 September).
Sima’s goal gave Brest all three points in their first Champions League match, and the 23-year-old was showered with plaudits, even from former Light Blues teammate Raskin after the final whistle.
Raskin took to Instagram on Friday (20 September) and uploaded Brest’s photo of Sima with the player of the match trophy, writing the story with “Simaaaaaaaaa” and a red heart emoji.
What happened to Abdallah Sima after Rangers and Ibrox exit?
The Rangers fans were sad not to be able to sign Sima again this season, but Raksin’s words suggest that the players may have been equally disappointed that the forward did not return to Ibrox.
Although injuries kept the Senegal international from playing in the second part of the season, the 23-year-old was one of the Light Blues’ greatest players when healthy and would have made an ideal permanent addition. Unfortunately, Sima’s value will only rise with goals like those in the Champions League.
If the Gers couldn’t afford to sign him permanently from Brighton last season, that is unlikely to change next year.
Hopefully, the likes of Oscar Cortes, Vaclav Cerny and Rabbi Matondo will be able to provide similar quality out wide and a combination of Cyriel Dessers, Hamza Igamane and Danilo will be able to find the net consistently.
Sima may be missed at Ibrox, but there are players in Clement’s squad more than capable of replacing him. In other Rangers news, Alex Crook has made a Gers admission after a new Champions League update emerged this season
